She must ask the right questions, recall memories, and reflect on her feelings and actions in those moments. For the story to move and build tension and for the reader to care, the narrator must be curious, fearless, and vulnerable."

It's a tricky thing, being the present narrator and also aware narrator. Ronit Plank had a great podcast episode on this. I'll try to find it.
