Love this! I took the plunge too and left my job ...now I am in transition. Presently renovating a house on the beach in my small hometown and loving every minute of it. But this liminal period is not easy! I am learning to lean into that.
"When I track word count on my memoir project, the writing suffers." I think this is a hugely important insight. In my Accountability group for writers, this is a truth that surprises most of us...and like this essay did for me, it opens the door to looking at how we can really measure value and inspire creativity. Thx, Catherine, for another wonderful post
Ah, Joni! Thank you so much for this note. I often think of your advice, the first time I attended your workshop in Woodstock. "You have to write your way through the questions." (if I may be bold enough to try and quote you!) Hard to discover when focused on the metrics.
I love this. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming...
And try to keep your head above water!
Hooray is right! "... I'm here to trust my voice. Because that is what my midlife reinvention is all about."
I think you are doing a fantastic job, keep it up.

Enjoy your vacation!
The liminal period is SO hard. Like the trough between the waves, it's a time of uncertainty but also a time to catch your breath.
